Early Life and Education
Vitaly Yuferyev was born on May 6, 1916, in the village of Mudrovo, Vyatka Governorate, to a family of priests. He later relocated to the city of Asbest with his elder brother and pursued his education at a mining and enrichment technical school. However, he was expelled due to his father's status as a priest. Yuferyev subsequently worked as a typesetter in a printing house while actively participating in artistic activities.
Wartime Service and Literary Debut
In 1940, Yuferyev graduated from the Sverdlovsk Theater School and was inducted into the military. During World War II (1941-1945), he fought on various fronts and began writing poetry. He served in the artillery, infantry, and the Song and Dance Ensemble of the 22nd Army. Yuferyev was decorated with the Order of the Patriotic War and nine medals.
Post-War Career
After the war, Yuferyev moved to Magnitogorsk in 1946 and joined the Magnitogorsk Pushkin Drama Theater, where he remained as an actor until 1989. He became renowned as a master of episodic roles and played over 100 characters during his tenure. For many years, Yuferyev also portrayed Santa Claus during the theater's annual Christmas tree events. Some of his most notable performances included Благовещенский ("A Grave Accusation"), Васюков ("Construction Front"), Дохлянов ("Widower"), Капитан Егорыч ("Honor Thy Father"), Татарин ("The Lower Depths"), and Филимонов ("Maria").
Recognition and Legacy
In 1979, Yuferyev was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR. In 1992, his book of poems, "Wild Rose," was published by the Magnit publishing house. Yuferyev passed away in Magnitogorsk on February 19, 1994.
