Biography of Vitaly Volkov
Russian-Belarusian Trumpeter and Music EducatorVitaly Volkov was a renowned Russian-Belarusian trumpeter and music educator. He was born on August 21, 1941, in Sverdlovsk, Russia. Volkov had a successful career as a soloist with the Belarusian Symphony Orchestra and the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. He was also an esteemed professor at the Belarusian Conservatory and a faculty member at the Minsk Institute of Culture, Cairo Conservatory, and Baghdad Conservatory.
Achievements
In 1980, Volkov was honored with the title of Merited Artist of the Belarusian SSR. He completed his education at the Ural Conservatory in 1964 and pursued his postgraduate studies under the guidance of Vyacheslav Shchyolokov, graduating in 1969. From 1963 to 1968, Volkov served as a soloist with the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, and from 1968, he held the same position with the Belarusian Symphony Orchestra.
Starting from 1974, Volkov began his teaching career at the Minsk Institute of Culture, followed by his appointment at the Belarusian Conservatory in 1978. In 1984, he was granted the title of Associate Professor and later, Professor. Additionally, Volkov taught at the Cairo Conservatory from 1979 to 1980 and at the Baghdad Conservatory from 1984 to 1987.
Contributions and Legacy
Vitaly Volkov was not only a skilled performer but also a prolific author. He wrote several methodological works on trumpet playing and made numerous transcriptions and arrangements for trumpet and piano. He was also recognized for being the first to perform compositions by contemporary Belarusian composers. Volkov's playing was admired for its lightness and brightness of sound, as noted by the prominent Russian trumpeter Timofey Dokshitzer, who had heard Volkov perform on multiple occasions.
Sadly, Vitaly Volkov passed away in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in trumpet performance and music education. His contributions continue to inspire trumpet players and musicians around the world.
