Biography of Vladautas Jurgunas
Vladautas Jurgunas was a Lithuanian graphic artist and a People's Artist of the USSR. He was born as the son of the artist Vladautas Jurgunas. From 1929 to 1935, he studied at the Kaunas Art School under M. V. Dobuzhinsky.
Career
Starting from 1945, Jurgunas worked at the State Art Institute of the Lithuanian SSR. In 1949, he became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). In 1960, he was awarded the title of "professor". His primary focus was linocut, and he created important series such as "Atrocities of the Fascist Occupiers" (1945-1946) and "I Will be a Milkmaid!" (1960). Jurgunas also engaged in book illustration. Among the books he illustrated were works by Dionizas Poška, Kristijonas Donelaitis, Jūratė Žemaitytė, Teofilis Tilvytis, Motiejus Valančius ("Jūzė from Palanga"), Antanas Baranauskas (the poem "The Forest of Anykščiai"), and Ernest Hemingway ("The Old Man and the Sea").
