Anna Bardzilouskaya: A Rising Belarusian Trampoline Gymnast
Anna Bardzilouskaya is a Belarusian trampoline gymnast who has made a significant mark in the sport. She competed as an Individual Neutral Athlete in the 2024 Summer Olympics and emerged with a silver medal in the individual trampoline event.
Early Life and Background
Bardzilouskaya was born on June 7, 2005, in Mogilev, Belarus. She embarked on her trampoline journey at the tender age of four. The name Bardzilouskaya is the feminine form of the surname Bardzilovsky.
Career Highlights
Early SuccessesBardzilouskaya made a notable debut at the 2017 World Age Group Competitions in the 11-12 age category, securing the 19th position in the individual trampoline event.
European and World Achievements
Her breakthrough came at the 2021 European Junior Championships, where she claimed the gold medal in the synchronized trampoline event alongside her partner, Maria Sergeeva. Additionally, the Belarusian trampoline team won silver, narrowly losing to Russia.
Bardzilouskaya continued her international success at the 2021 World Age Group Competitions. She and Sergeeva captured another silver medal in the synchronized event. Bardzilouskaya also finished 49th in the individual competition.
Adult Debut and FIG Suspension
In February 2022, Bardzilouskaya made her senior international debut at the Baku World Cup, claiming seventh place in the individual final.
However, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes in March 2022 due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Bardzilouskaya, while unable to participate internationally, continued to excel in domestic events, winning the Belarusian individual trampoline championship title in 2022.
Return to International Competition and Olympic Qualification
In 2024, the FIG approved a select group of athletes as "neutrals" to return to international competitions. Bardzilouskaya resumed her international presence at the 2024 Baku World Cup, finishing tenth in the semi-final, securing her place as the first reserve for the final.
She subsequently competed at the 2024 Cottbus World Cup and finished 12th overall.
Based on her results in the 2024 World Cup series, Bardzilouskaya earned a quota to the 2024 Olympic Games. In June, she was approved by the International Olympic Committee to participate as an Individual Neutral Athlete.
Olympic Glory
At the Olympic Games, Bardzilouskaya made history by winning the silver medal in the individual trampoline event, becoming the first of 32 Individual Neutral Athletes to claim a medal. She finished behind Great Britain's Bryony Page.
