Early Life and Education

Born in Lithuania, Vladas Braziūnas completed secondary school in Pasvalys in 1969. From 1962 to 1972, he studied journalism at Vilnius University and later earned a degree in Lithuanian language and literature in 1997.

Journalism and Literary Beginnings

Braziūnas worked as an editor for various newspapers, including "Gimtasis kraštas," "Literatūra ir menas," and "Lietuvos rytas." In 1988, he became a member of the Lithuanian Writers' Union and has dedicated himself to literary pursuits since 1996.

Literary Contributions

Poetry

Braziūnas has published numerous collections of poetry, with his debut work, "Slenka žaibas" (1983), earning him the prize for Best Poetic Debut (1984). His notable works include "Ant balto dugno" (1999), which won the Salomeja Nėris Prize, and his poem "Karilionas tūkstančiui ir vienai aušrai" ("Carillon for a Thousand and One Dawns"; 2003), which won a literary contest commemorating the 750th anniversary of the Lithuanian Kingdom.

Translations

As a translator, Braziūnas has played a significant role in bringing international literature to Lithuania. He has translated works from Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Polish, and Belarusian languages, including Yuriy Shcherbak's "Chernobyl" and Lena Eltang's poetry. For his translations of Ukrainian poetry, he received the Taras Shevchenko Award from the Lithuanian-Ukrainian Foundation in 2002.
