Vladimir Beletsky: A Distinguished Ukrainian Scientist

Early Life and Education

Vladimir Beletsky was born in Ukraine in 1950. He graduated from high school in 1967 and then went on to obtain his degree with honors from the Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute (now the National Mining University) in 1972.

Military Service

After graduating, Vladimir Beletsky served as an officer in the tank forces of the Soviet Army in Germany from 1972 to 1974. He commanded a platoon (company) of medium tanks and visited various cities in East Germany.

Research and Academia

From 1974 to 1978, Vladimir Beletsky pursued a postgraduate degree at the Department of Automation of Industrial Processes at the Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute. For over three decades, he has been closely involved in mining sciences and the Donbass region.

He has held various positions, including senior mechanic at the Ordzhonikidze Mine, research scientist at the Makeyevka Research Institute for Safety in Mining, and professor at the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute (now the Donetsk National Technical University) since 1981.

Scientific Contributions

Dr. Vladimir Beletsky is a prolific author with over 400 scientific publications, including several monographs, dictionaries, and textbooks. Under his leadership, the three-volume "Mining Encyclopedic Dictionary" (ISBN 966-7804-14-3) and the "Small Mining Encyclopedia" (ISBN 966-7804-14-3) were published in Ukrainian. These reference books contain over 12,000 and 17,000 articles, respectively, making them the largest mining reference-encyclopedic editions in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Awards and Honors

In recognition of his contributions, Vladimir Beletsky has been awarded the Order of Merit, III Degree (2009). He is a Corresponding Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and a Member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society and the Ukrainian Academy of Economic Sciences.

Editorial Role

He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal "Skhid" (East).
