Life and Career
Lithuanian actor Valdas Jatautis was born in Lithuania and became a renowned figure in the country's theater scene. He received the title of Honored Artist of Lithuania in 1976.
Education and Early Career
In 1963, Jatautis graduated from the Lithuanian State Conservatory. He immediately joined the Russian Drama Theater of Lithuania, where he spent the majority of his career. He also had stints at the Kaunas State Drama Theater and participated in productions at the Oskaras Koršunovas Theater.
Stage Roles
Jatautis portrayed various characters throughout his career, creating over 120 stage roles. His notable performances included:
- Freddy in Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion" (1961)
- A supporting role in Nikolai Pogodin's "The Kremlin Chimes" (1961)- Durko in Peter Karvas' "Holy Night" (1962)
- King Henry in Roman Viktyuk's "Mary Stuart" (1962)

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Jatautis actively participated in the Sąjūdis movement for Lithuanian independence. He was a co-founder and leader of the Russian Cultural Center in Lithuania.
Recognition and Legacy
In 2003, Jatautis was honored with the Officer's Cross of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas. He passed away at the age of 67 after a prolonged illness on September 24th. Jatautis was laid to rest at the Antakalnis Cemetery on September 26th. His legacy as a beloved stage actor and cultural icon continues to inspire generations of Lithuanian theater artists.
