Early Life and Career
Vladimir Guerrero was born in Nizao Bani, Peravia, Dominican Republic. Inspired by his brother Wilton, he began playing baseball at a young age and signed his first professional contract with the Montreal Expos in 1993.
Success in Montreal
Guerrero quickly established himself as a rising star during his years with the Expos. He was known for his powerful hitting and was named to the All-Star team in 1998 and 1999.
Record-Breaking Season with the Angels
After signing a lucrative deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2004, Guerrero had an historic season. He set a team record for home runs and RBIs, leading the Angels to the American League West championship. He was also named the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Continued Success and Legacy
Guerrero continued to excel for the Angels, leading the team to three more American League West championships and earning an All-Star Starter selection in 2007. He is widely regarded as one of the most feared hitters in baseball.
Minor Controversy and Retirement
Guerrero's knee surgery in October 2008 marked a minor setback in his stellar career. Additionally, it was later revealed that he had misrepresented his age by one year when signing his first contract, stating he was born in 1976 instead of 1975. Guerrero retired from baseball in 2011.
