Early Career
Vladimir Iliev, a Bulgarian biathlete, began his journey on the international stage in 2006 when he debuted at the World Cup. He represented the "Ajax" sports club from Troyan, and his early performances paved the way for significant achievements.
Olympic and World Cup Participation
Iliev graced the tracks of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Sochi, though his personal race rankings never exceeded 39th position. In 2009, at the World Championships in Pyeongchang, he made a breakthrough by finishing 32nd in the individual race, marking his first World Cup points.
Bronze at European Championships and Success at Universiade
Iliev captured the bronze medal in the individual race at the 2015 European Championships in Otepää. That same year, he achieved podium success at the Winter Universiade in Erzurum, claiming bronze in the mixed relay alongside his teammates.
Career Peak and Summer World Championship
The 2015 World Championships in Kontiolahti proved to be a career highlight for Iliev. He impressed with an eighth-place finish in the sprint and followed it up with a sixth-place performance in the pursuit race, matching his best career result in the World Cup. Capping off a remarkable year, he became the World Summer Biathlon Champion in Romania.
European Championship Triumph
In 2017, Iliev reached the pinnacle of his career. At the European Championships in Duszniki-Zdrój, Poland, he claimed the gold medal in the sprint, becoming the European Champion in that discipline. This victory solidified his status as one of the most successful Bulgarian biathletes of his era.
