Early Life and Education
Vladimir Koman was born on June 19, 1938, into a family of civil servants. He pursued his higher education at Dnipropetrovsk State University, graduating with a degree in physics and engineering in 1960.
Career at KB Yuzhnoye
Engineer and Designer (1960-1986)Upon graduation, Koman joined KB Yuzhnoye, a leading rocket and space design bureau. He began his career as an engineer-constructor and rose through the ranks to become a senior engineer and first constructor.
Chief Designer, Rocket and Space Technology (1986-1996)
In 1986, Koman was appointed as Chief Designer for Rocket and Space Technology at KB Yuzhnoye. Under his guidance, the bureau played a pivotal role in numerous space exploration projects, including:
Telemetric measurement of acoustic and vibrational regimes in intercontinental ballistic missiles (1960-1966)
Development and implementation of space rocket complexes such as "Cyclone-2," "Cyclone-3," "Zenit," and "Energia-Buran" (1966-1996)
Deputy General Designer (1996-Present)
Since 1996, Koman has served as Deputy General Designer at KB Yuzhnoye. His responsibilities have included:
Leading the Ukrainian side of the "Sea Launch" program, a joint venture for launching rockets from ocean platforms
Representing KB Yuzhnoye in the international Sea Launch consortium
Overseeing the adaptation of the "Zenit" rocket complex for marine launch conditions
Academic and Professional Affiliations
Koman holds a PhD in technical sciences and is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics.
Political Aspirations
In the 2006 elections, Koman ran as a candidate for the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) on the "Not Like That!" opposition bloc.
