Vladimir Kubiyovych was a Ukrainian politician, geographer, historian, and cultural figure who played a pivotal role in the formation of the SS Division "Galicia" and the publication of the "Encyclopedia of Ukrainian Studies."

Early Life and Education

Born in the Ukrainian-Polish village of Nowy Sącz in 1900, Kubiyovych began his studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1918. Collaboration with the Nazis

During the war, Kubiyovych actively supported collaboration with the Germans. He became the head of the Ukrainian Central Committee in Kraków and initiated the formation of the SS Division "Galicia." In 1944, he emigrated to the Third Reich and later to France.

Postwar Life

After the war, Kubiyovych became a leading figure in the Ukrainian national movement in the West. He initiated the publication of the ten-volume Ukrainian encyclopedia. In the postwar years, he worked extensively on Ukrainian studies, serving as the editor-in-chief of the "Encyclopedia of Ukrainian Studies" published in France.
