Early Life and Education
Vladimir Nikolaevich Shokorov was born on July 15, 1868. He graduated from the 3rd Moscow Cadet Corps in 1886 and the Alekseev Military School in 1888. He subsequently attended the Nikolaevsky Academy of the General Staff.
Military Career
Shokorov participated in World War I as the Chief of Staff of the 12th Infantry Division. In 1917, he was appointed Commander of the Separate Czechoslovak Corps, a unit fighting alongside the White Army.
Role in the Czechoslovak Corps
After the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, the Czechoslovak Corps was ordered to be transferred to France via Vladivostok. However, the corps leadership declared allegiance to the Czechoslovak government and replaced Shokorov with a Czech general in July 1918.
Shokorov remained with the corps as General Inspector of Czechoslovak troops in Russia. He used this position to assert authority over Russian units, which created confusion and hindered military operations. This situation persisted until the rise of Admiral Kolchak, who abolished many Siberian army units and established a unified Russian command.
Exile and Later Life
Following the defeat of the White movement, Shokorov emigrated to Czechoslovakia in 1920. He lived in Prague until his death on July 11, 1940.
