The Formation of the Alternative Band: Vol'maya Marta
In 1996, three aspiring musicians, Galina Kopernik, Marina Tibanova, and Maria Kinder, embarked on a musical journey that would define an era in Russian alternative music: Vol'maya Marta. With Kopernik on guitar and vocals, Tibanova on bass and vocals, and Kinder on drums, the trio initially performed under the enigmatic name "AM I SEXY?".
The Birth of Vol'maya Marta
After four transformative rehearsals, the band made their resounding debut in a small club in Moscow. Their electrifying performance ignited a spark in the underground music scene, earning them instant recognition. Within two months, Vol'maya Marta shared the stage with established alternative legends such as Chudo-Yudo, Purggen, and Tarakany.
A Grunge Sensation
Vol'maya Marta's reputation grew exponentially during a pivotal tour to Minsk in 1997. Their raw and energetic performances left an unforgettable mark, establishing them as one of Moscow's most formidable grunge bands. This success was amplified by the departure of guitarist Maksim Kisly and the arrival of Vova Rodeo.
A New Era of Collaboration
A serendipitous encounter with Artur Pilyavin, the leader of the renowned band Kvartal, proved transformative for Vol'maya Marta. Pilyavin became their producer, providing professional sound recording opportunities. In 1998, they abandoned their original name and embraced their current moniker, solidifying their identity as Vol'maya Marta.
The Female Power Trio
Driven by a desire for artistic autonomy, the band made the bold decision to become an all-female trio. Vova Rodeo bid farewell, and the classic lineup of Kopernik, Tibanova, and Kinder remained unchanged. Under this configuration, they recorded their first video clip for the song "Letchik."
Years of Triumph
Over the years, Vol'maya Marta has graced countless stages, sharing their energetic performances with legendary bands such as Naiv, Nogu Svelo!, Spleen, Aukcion, Televizor, Krematioriy, Nol, and Kvartal. They have toured extensively throughout Russia, Belarus, Georgia, and Moldova, captivating audiences with their unique blend of punk, grunge, and rock-and-roll.
A Legacy of Women in Rock
Vol'maya Marta's debut album, "S Prazdnikom!" ("Happy Holiday!"), released in 2001, marked a triumphant milestone in their career. Their music continues to inspire and empower women in the music industry, proving that female musicians can conquer all barriers and create unforgettable experiences for their fans.
