Biography of Vyacheslav Zaitsev

Vyacheslav Zaitsev is a couturier, artist, poet, and the president of the Moscow House of Fashion. He was born on March 2, 1938, in Ivanovo, Russia, into a working-class family.

Early Career

In 1956, Zaitsev graduated with honors from the Ivanovo Chemical-Technological Technical School, specializing in fabric painting. In 1962, he graduated with honors from the Moscow Textile Institute. He started working at the experimental sewing factory of Mossovarkhoz and headed the experimental group at the All-Union House of Models on Kuznetsky Most.

Breakthrough in Fashion

In 1965, Zaitsev met Pierre Cardin and Marc Bohan, which marked a turning point in his career. In 1979, he left the official fashion industry and started from scratch in a small atelier, which later grew into the Moscow House of Fashion.

Recognition and Achievements

In 1980, Zaitsev's costumes for the participants of the Moscow Olympics earned him the Order of Honor. He published two books, "Such Changeable Fashion" and "This Multifaceted World of Fashion" in 1980. In 1982, Zaitsev became the head of the House of Fashion, and in 1988, he was elected its president.

In 1988, Zaitsev became the first Russian artist to be invited to participate in the collections show of the Paris Mezzo di Couture. He was named the Man of the Year in the fashion world. He was also granted honorary citizenship in Paris.

In 1991, Zaitsev received a commission to create a new uniform for the Russian police force. He was awarded the title of "Meritorious Artist" in the same year.

International Recognition

In 1992, the publishing house "Novosti" released a book about Zaitsev, titled "Nostalgia for Beauty," in English. The beauty giant L'Oreal launched the first fragrance by the Russian designer, called "Marusya," and later introduced a new line of Zaitsev's project, "Marusya," which included creams, lotions, deodorants, and soaps.

In 1993, an experimental batch of chairs based on Zaitsev's sketches was produced in Belgium. He collaborated with the French company "Reviyon" to create fur and fabric clothing called "OT Couture." Since 1993, Zaitsev has been the president and chairman of the jury of the annual Russian competition for domestic fabrics and model collections, "Textile Salon" in Ivanovo.

Continued Contributions

In 1994, Zaitsev organized the N. Lomanova Young Designers Competition in Russia for the first time. He also led the competitions "Exercises" for teachers and students of sewing colleges and lyceums and "Golden Needle" for the Russian Association of Children's Creative Collectives of Fashion. He also initiated the "Velvet Seasons in Sochi" festival.

Despite his busy schedule, Zaitsev continues to work with young artists, designers, and fashion professionals. His work represents the tireless efforts of a Russian intellectual for the sake of Russia and the prosperity of its talented people.
