Biography of Wallis Warfield Simpson

Wallis Warfield Simpson was born on June 19, 1896, in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Teackle Wallis Warfield and Alice Montague. Wallis had a tumultuous personal life before she became involved with the British royal family. She was married twice before she met Prince Edward, the future King Edward VIII. Her first husband, Earl Winfield Spencer Jr., died of tuberculosis, and her second marriage, to Ernest Aldrich Simpson, ended in divorce.

Wallis was known for her beauty and charm, and she had many love affairs before she met Prince Edward. However, when they met in 1930, they fell deeply in love and began a passionate relationship. Despite the obstacles that stood in their way, including Wallis' previous marriages and the disapproval of the British government and public, they continued their relationship.

In 1936, King George V died, and Prince Edward ascended the throne as King Edward VIII. However, his relationship with Wallis caused a constitutional crisis, as she was a divorced American woman and it was against the Church of England for the King to marry her. Faced with the choice between his love for Wallis and the throne, Edward made the decision to abdicate in December 1936.

After abdicating, Edward was given the title Duke of Windsor, and he and Wallis were married on June 3, 1937. They settled in France, where they lived a quiet life away from the public eye. During World War II, they were seen as sympathizers of Nazi Germany, which caused further controversy and scandal.

After the war, the couple returned to France and lived in Paris for many years. They enjoyed a happy and peaceful life together, with Edward playing golf and reading, and Wallis taking care of him. However, Edward's health began to deteriorate, and he was diagnosed with cancer.

Edward died on May 28, 1972, and Wallis was devastated by his loss. She continued to live in France until her own death on April 24, 1986. Despite the controversies surrounding their relationship, Wallis and Edward's love for each other remained strong until the end. They were buried together in the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, Windsor.
