Biography of Wayne Hussey
Early Life and Musical InfluencesWayne Hussey is a British musician and guitarist, best known as the guitarist for the band The Sisters of Mercy and the frontman of The Mission. He grew up in Bristol and developed a passion for music through the influence of Mark Bolan and his band T. Rex. Inspired by their music, Hussey decided to pursue a career as a guitarist.
Rebellion Against Parents' Wishes
Despite his parents' desire for him to become a missionary, as they were Mormons, Hussey defied their wishes and moved to Liverpool. There, he started playing at the renowned Eric's club, which held significant importance in the music scene at the time. It was during this period that Hussey took his first steps on stage, performing with Pauline Murray and The Invisible Girls. It was also during this time that he first attempted songwriting.
Rise to Popularity
Hussey gained popularity after joining Dead or Alive at the request of their frontman, Pete Burns. Following his time with Dead or Alive, Hussey joined the legendary band The Sisters of Mercy, where he showcased his skills on both 12-string and 6-string guitars. After the split in The Sisters of Mercy, Hussey and bassist Craig Adams formed the band The Mission, inviting drummer Mick Brown (from Red Lorry Yellow Lorry) and guitarist Simon Hinkler to join them.
Musical Career and Football Passion
Hussey is known for his use of the Variax 500 guitar during live performances, having previously used the Gretsch White Falcon. In the studio, he utilizes guitars such as the Fender Telecaster and Starcaster. He is also a devoted football fan, supporting the Liverpool Football Club. In celebration of their UEFA Champions League victory in 2005, Hussey wrote the song "Draped in Red". In 2008, he announced the permanent dissolution of The Mission and embarked on a solo career. That same year, he released the album "Bare".
