Early Life and Political Beginnings

German politician Werner Krolikowski joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in 1946. He initially served in the city council of Malchin until 1950. From 1951 to 1952, he held a leadership role in Mecklenburg.

Rise in the SED Ranks

In 1952, Krolikowski became the first secretary of the district committee of the SED in Ribnitz-Damgarten. However, he was dismissed from this position in December 1952 for violating party discipline.

Recovery and Advancement

Undeterred, Krolikowski served as second and then first secretary of the district committee of the SED in Greifswald from 1953 to 1958. He then became secretary for agitation and propaganda of the district committee in Rostock from 1958 to 1960.

Prominent Positions

Krolikowski's career continued to ascend, and he held several prominent positions:

- 1963-onward: Member of the Central Committee of the SED

- 1970-onward: Member of the People's Chamber of the GDR
- 1973-1976: Secretary of the Central Committee

- 1976-1989: First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the GDR

Agriculture and Resignation

In 1988, Krolikowski was appointed Secretary of the Central Committee for Agriculture. However, he resigned in 1989 and was expelled from the SED on December 3, 1989.

Trial and Acquittal

Subsequently, Krolikowski was charged with embezzlement but was acquitted due to his ill health.

Honors

Despite his dismissal from the SED, Krolikowski had received the following honors:

- 1964, 1970, and 1980: Order of Merit for the Fatherland

- 1970: Order for Services to the People and Fatherland
- 1978: Order of Karl Marx
