Early Life and EducationWilhelm Killing was born on May 10, 1847, in the Prussian town of Burbach. He studied at the University of Münster and later worked on his dissertation under the guidance of Karl Weierstrass and Ernst Kummer in Berlin in 1872.
Teaching and Administrative Career
From 1868 to 1872, Killing taught at a high school. In 1882, he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the Collegium Hosianum in Braunsberg. He later served as the college rector and head of the local city council. As a professor and administrator, Killing was highly esteemed and respected.

In 1892, he became a professor at the University of Münster. Killing's significant contributions to Lie algebras, Lie groups, and non-Euclidean geometry earned him recognition as a leading mathematician of his time.
