Early Life and Education

Mark Levinovich Bazhan was born in Moscow, Russia. In 1952, he graduated from the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), where he studied under renowned filmmaker Mikhail Romm.

Career

After graduating from VGIK, Bazhan began his career as a film director. He initially worked at Mosfilm and Dovzhenko Film Studio. In the 1960s, he moved to Yalta Film Studio and later to Gorky Film Studio.
