Early Life and Education

Yani Gellman was born on September 2, 1985, in Miami, Florida to a Canadian father and an Australian mother. His parents named him after a family friend, the author Gene Jura. Gellman's father was a reporter, which led the family to move frequently throughout his childhood, including to Australia, Spain, and Texas before settling in Toronto. Gellman speaks Spanish, having learned the language during his time in Spain. He holds a university degree in Political Science.

Debut and Breakthrough

Gellman made his acting debut in 1998 with a minor role as Brad in an episode of the television series "Animorphs." He went on to appear in "The Famous Jett Jackson" and the short film "The Royal Diaries: Cleopatra – Daughter of the Nile." In 2000, he made his feature film debut in John Ottman's horror film "Urban Legends: Final Cut." The film follows Amy, a college student who becomes entangled in a string of real-life murders while filming a documentary about urban legends. Gellman plays a character who is brutally murdered by the serial killer.

Horror and Sci-Fi Roles

After "Urban Legends," Gellman appeared in the Canadian film "Children of My Heart" and the series "Blue Murder." He also played Romeo in the Douglas Barr drama "Sex, Lies & Obsession" and had a role in the 2001 crime drama "Boss of Bosses." In 2001, he again took on the role of a victim in James Isaac's horror-comedy "Jason X." However, it was his role as Paolo Valisari, an Italian pop star, in the 2003 film "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" that gained him significant recognition among teenage audiences.

Later Work

In 2002, Gellman starred in the dramatic film "The Matthew Shepard Story" and the American film "Tru Confessions." His most recent acting credits include the series "Wild Card" and the Canadian series "Monster Warriors."
