Early Days and Meteoric Rise

At the tender age of nine, Katan joined the Maccabi Haifa youth team. His exceptional talent quickly propelled him through the ranks, and he made his senior debut at just 16 years old. Katan's impressive performances earned him a four-year contract with West Ham United in 2005, where he reunited with his Israeli national team colleague Yossi Benayoun.

Stint at West Ham United

Despite the high expectations, Katan faced fierce competition at West Ham. Appearing in only eight matches, primarily as a substitute, he returned to Maccabi Haifa on loan at the end of the 2005/2006 season. This move eventually culminated in a permanent four-year contract with Maccabi.
