Early Life and Career
Rubén Darío Gómez Sánchez, an Argentine footballer, began his football journey at a tender age in school. He developed his skills at the Belgrano Football School in Córdoba before joining the club's senior team. Gómez spent two seasons with Belgrano, making 33 appearances and scoring 2 goals.
Ukraine and Belgium
Seeking opportunities abroad, Gómez went on trial with the Mallorca youth team in Spain. However, his path led him to Ukraine, where he was scouted and offered a contract with Metalurh Donetsk in 2004. Debuting against Illichivets Mariupol, Gómez played 7 matches in the Ukrainian Second League with Metalurh-2.
Loans stints at Stal Alchevsk and a brief period back at Metalurh followed. Gómez's time at Stal coincided with their relegation to the First League. After returning to Metalurh, he played 32 matches for the club, scoring 1 goal. In 2008, Gómez became a free agent and joined Belgian club Mechelen, playing 3 matches before leaving for Zorya Luhansk.
Zorya, Transcarpathia, and Cyprus
At Zorya, Gómez spent a year, making 24 appearances. Rumors of a potential transfer to Russian club Kuban emerged in 2009, but Gómez refuted them. Instead, he joined FC Zakarpattia Uzhhorod on a 1+1 contract.
Gómez played 22 matches for Transcarpathia, helping them avoid relegation. However, the team was relegated the following season, and Gómez was named the club's Player of the Season. In 2010, he moved to Cypriot club AEK Larnaca.
Later Career
From 2012 to 2014, Gómez played for Tavriya Simferopol in Ukraine. He retired from professional football in 2014.
Personal Life
Gómez met his future wife, Arina, in Donetsk. They have a daughter, Zarine Nicole. Gómez became fluent in Russian with the help of Igor Protsenko, who worked at Donetsk University.
