Acting Beginnings

Born on March 25, 1986, Yaroslav Zhalnin's artistic talents emerged early. He participated in dance, acrobatics, and theater productions. In 2003, the 17-year-old aspiring actor traveled to Moscow to pursue his dream at the Moscow Art Theater School.

VГИК Success

Though he fell short in the final round at MKhAT, Zhalnin was accepted into the acting program at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VГИК) under the mentorship of Alexander Lenkov and Sergey Aldonin. In 2007, he won the VГИК International Student Festival Prize for Best Male Performance in the short film "Collector." That same year, he received the Makarova-Gerasimov Foundation Special Prize for his role in "Romeo and Juliet." In 2008, he again won the VГИК festival prize for Best Male Performance in the short film "Polaroid Love," and earned recognition for Best Organization of Production for the same film.

Early Film and Theater Roles

Zhalnin's cinematic debut came in 2005 with the lead role in "Manga." He continued to hone his craft in short films and stage productions, including "Ivan Ivanovich" in "Elizabeth Bam" (2006), "Harry" in "Noises Off" (2007), and the title character in "Romeo and Juliet" (2007).

Breakthroughs: "In Paris!" and "Gagarin. First in Space"

In 2009, Zhalnin's role in Sergey Kruti's drama "In Paris!" brought him wider recognition. His portrayal of a young man drawn into a life of violence earned critical acclaim. In 2013, he took on the iconic role of Yuri Gagarin in the historical drama "Gagarin. First in Space," becoming the first actor to portray the legendary cosmonaut in a major film.

Throughout his career, Zhalnin has showcased his versatility in a wide range of roles. From the unjustly accused in "Court" to the romantic Sasha in "A Pair of Bays," and the protective son in "When the Rhododendron Blooms," he has consistently demonstrated his emotional depth and range.
