Early Life and Education
Born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1971, Rabbi Cohen traces his roots to a lineage of rabbis. At the tender age of four, he commenced his studies at a heder, a traditional Jewish elementary school, in Jerusalem. His academic journey continued at the esteemed yeshiva "Torat Emet Chabad Lubavitch," which he completed in 1986.
Extensive Rabbinical Training
At fifteen, Rabbi Cohen pursued further rabbinical education at the "Chabad Lubavitch Manchester" yeshiva in the United Kingdom, graduating in 1989. He then spent three years delving into rabbinical texts at the renowned "Tomchei Temimim Chabad Lubavitch New York" yeshiva in the United States, receiving his rabbinical ordination in 1992.
Ministering in Russia and Kazakhstan
Prior to his appointment in Kazakhstan, Rabbi Cohen served as an assistant to the Chief Rabbi of Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1993. In 1994, responding to a request from the Jewish community in Kazakhstan, he arrived to lead their congregation and establish a vibrant religious presence.
Leadership and Recognition
Rabbi Cohen holds prominent positions as a member of the National Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Chairman of the Eurasian Rabbinical Council, and a member of the Council of the Institute for Religion and Public Policy in Washington. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the prestigious "20 Years of Astana" medal in 2018.
Personal Life
Rabbi Cohen is a devoted husband and father to five children. His unwavering commitment to his family and faith anchors his personal life and guides his leadership within the Jewish community.
