Early Life and Education
Yordanka Fandakova was born on April 12, 1962, in Samokov, Bulgaria. She attended the Dobri Voynikov Russian Language School No. 35 in Sofia and later earned a degree in Russian Philology from St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia.
Teaching Career
In 1985, Fandakova began her teaching career at Vladislav Gramatik Secondary School No. 73 in Sofia. In 1998, she was appointed principal of the school.
Political Involvement
Fandakova is a member of the GERB party. She is a strong supporter of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and has held various political positions. In 2009, she became the first female Mayor of Sofia.
Personal Life
Fandakova is married to Yuri Fandakov, a pediatrician. They have a daughter named Mihaela and a grandson named Alex.
Controversies
During the 2020 Bulgarian protests, Fandakova faced criticism from protesters who demanded her resignation. She was accused of being a close ally of Borisov and failing to address the concerns of Sofia residents.
