Early Life and Career
Yoshiaki Kawajiri grew up and received his education in Yokohama, Japan. After graduating high school in 1968, he worked as an animator at Mushi Production Animation for several years before the studio's bankruptcy in 1972. He then joined Madhouse Studios.
Directorial Debut
In 1984, Kawajiri co-directed the anime television series "Lensman" with Kazuyuki Hirokawa, marking his directorial debut. His first solo directorial work was the 1987 film "Wicked City."
