Biography of Yan Biao

Yan Biao, born in Nanjing, China, is a renowned actor known by his stage name Xia Linzijun. From an early age, he was fascinated by the actors of Beijing Opera whom he had seen and attempted to imitate. Disliking regular school, he was eventually sent to a Beijing Opera school at the age of five. He successfully passed the audition to join the performance troupe known as the "Seven Little Fortunes." Among his colleagues in the troupe were Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung, who would later become famous. It was in this troupe that Xia adopted the stage name "Yan Biao," which translates to "Little Tiger Yuan."

In the 1960s, the school's teacher and his family emigrated to the United States, settling in Los Angeles. The performance troupe also traveled to the US for shows. After the tour ended, Yan Biao stayed in the US and assisted the teacher. However, a year later, he was forced to return to Hong Kong.
