Early Life and Education
Yulia Sanina, also known as Yulia Golovan, was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on October 11, 1989. Her parents were professional musicians, and she began performing on stage at an early age as a soloist in her father's ensemble. She later pursued her musical studies at a music school, specializing in jazz and pop art, while concurrently participating in various children's and adult ensembles, including the youth jazz band Sister Siren.
Upon graduating high school, Sanina chose to pursue a non-musical path, influenced by the family situation. However, after meeting music producer Valery Bebko, her life took a different direction.
Television Appearances
Sanina's talents extended to television as well. She participated in the televised music competitions "Krok do zirok" in 2001 and "I Want to Be a Star" at age 16, reaching the finals in the latter. In 2016, she joined the jury panel of the popular talent show "X-Factor" Ukraine. Additionally, she showcased her dancing abilities in the Ukrainian version of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2020.
Music Career
Sanina's musical journey began in earnest in 2009 when she met music producer Valery Bebko. Together, they formed the Russian-language pop duo Val & Sania and recorded several songs. Soon after, the duo transformed into The Hardkiss and began singing in English, mostly composing their own material.
Their debut single "Babylon" gained recognition and led to their first concert. They quickly gained a reputation for Sanina's powerful vocals and the band's eclectic sound. In 2011, they performed at the Midem Music Festival in France and were nominated for the Best Ukrainian Music Project at the MTV EMA awards.
The Hardkiss continued to release music and collect accolades. Their debut studio album, "Stones and Honey," was released in 2014, and they won the YUNA National Music Award for Best Discovery of the Year. They participated in the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision in 2016, finishing second.
Personal Life
Sanina married Valery Bebko in 2011, after five years of keeping their relationship private. They welcomed a son, Danylo, in 2015. Sanina has been open about a challenging period in her marriage, which they overcame through open communication.
Current Successes and Future Plans
Sanina and The Hardkiss continue to thrive musically. In 2020, they released the album "Acoustic. Live" and collaborated with Dimon Monatik on the single "Kobra." They are currently working on a Ukrainian-language album and a new show program, which will debut at the "Ten" jubilee concert in Kyiv in 2021.
