Biography of Yuriy Shilov - Ukrainian Writer and Ideologist

Yuriy Shilov was born on October 4, 1949, in the village of Obitochne in the Chernihiv district of the Zaporizhia region of the Ukrainian SSR. From a young age, he was interested in local history and archaeology.

In 1972, Shilov graduated from the History Department of Moscow State University, and in 1977, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he defended his dissertation.

Contribution to Historical Science
Yuriy Shilov's contribution to historical science is controversial. On one hand, in 1999, he personally funded the publication of previously unpublished works by renowned Ukrainian archaeologist V.N. Danilenko in Russia. In 2001, he partially financed the publication of research by orientalist A.G. Kifishin in Ukraine. However, Shilov's own works have faced harsh criticism from the academic community. Even his early works, including the book "Cosmic Secrets of Burial Mounds," have been criticized for their careless handling of archaeological data.

Controversial Works
Subsequent books by Shilov, such as "Ancestral Homeland of the Aryans," "Prehistory of Rus," "Cosmos of Ancient Ukraine," "Sources of Ukrainian Ethnoculture Origins from 19th millennium BC to 2nd millennium AD," and many others, have been perceived as fantastical and disconnected from reality. Shilov attempted to defend his doctoral dissertation first at the Kyiv Institute of Archaeology and later at the Department of Archaeology at Moscow State University, but both times his work was not accepted for consideration.

Later Life and Ideology
After unsuccessful attempts to become a Doctor of Historical Sciences, Shilov referred to himself as an academician of the "Ukrainian International Academy of Original Ideas" and an academician of the "Orthodox Russian Academy." He also referred to himself simply as a "people's academician." Shilov's ideology combines Ukrainian nationalism, where he believes the Sumerians and the entire world civilization originated from the Tripolye culture in the right-bank Ukraine region, which he calls the "Aratta state." He also incorporates Russian nationalism, claiming that Russians, who also originated from the Tripolye culture, participated in the Trojan War, and the heroic deeds of the Russians are described in Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey." Lastly, Shilov expresses anti-Semitism, suggesting that the Tripolye culture is the "main embryo of world civilization" but was "infected" by Semitic tribes in the 24th to 21st centuries BC. He specifically singles out the Jewish people as a "particularly aggressive tribe" who created their own version of the Sacred History.
