Biography of Yuri Baranov

Yuri Baranov, a state manager in the coal industry of Ukraine, was born on January 3, 1934 in the city of Novokuznetsk (now Kemerovo Oblast). He completed his studies at the Tomsk Mining Technical College in 1952 and the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute in 1960. From 1952 to 1955, he served in the Soviet Army.

Early Career

In 1955, Baranov started working as a cleaning crew worker at the Kalinin Mine of the Kuybyshevugol Trust, located in Donetsk. In 1959, he became a miner in the cleaning crew, and in 1960, he was promoted to the position of mining master and later deputy head of the mine section and head of the Musketovskaya-Zaperevalnaya No. 1 mine in Donetsk.

From 1964 to 1965, Baranov served as the chief engineer of the Musketovskaya-Vertikalnaya mine, which was part of the Proletarskugol Trust of the Donetskugol Combine in Donetsk. He then became the director of the Mine Management No. 8 of the Proletarskugol Trust from 1965 to 1968.

Directorship and Achievements

In 1968, Baranov was appointed as the director of the Socialist Donbass newspaper mine. In 1981, he became the director of the Mine Management named after the Socialist Donbass newspaper of the Donetskgol State Enterprise, and later the director of the Mine Management "Donbass" of the Donetskgol State Enterprise. He also served as the director and head of the Board of Directors of the State-Owned Enterprise "Shakhtoupravlenie Donbass" of the Donugol Coal Holding Company.

Baranov was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor in 1981 for his outstanding production achievements, early fulfillment of the tenth five-year plan tasks, and labor valor. He also served as the representative of presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych in the territorial electoral district No. 41 from 2004 to 2005.

Awards and Honors

Baranov received numerous awards and distinctions throughout his career, including:

- Hero of Socialist Labor (1981, with the Order of Lenin)
- Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1971)
- Order of the October Revolution (1976)
- Hero of Ukraine (with the Order of the State, December 19, 2001, for outstanding personal merits to the Ukrainian state in the development of the coal industry)
- Order "For Merit" 3rd Class (1999)
- Presidential Award of Ukraine - Jubilee Medal "20 Years of Independence of Ukraine" (August 19, 2011)
- Honored Miner of Ukraine
- Letter of Commendation from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (December 2003)
