Biography of Yuri Kostin

Yuri Kostin is a Soviet and Russian journalist, writer, and public figure, known for his contributions to the development of FM radio broadcasting in Russia. He has held various leadership positions in the broadcasting industry and has been recognized for his accomplishments.

Early Life and Education

Yuri Kostin graduated from the Faculty of International Journalism at MGIMO, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, in 1987. His education equipped him with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the field of journalism.

Career in Radio Broadcasting

After completing his studies, Kostin began his career at the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of the USSR, where he worked from 1987 to 1990. During this time, he focused on covering news related to the United States and England.

In 1990, Kostin was appointed as the responsible production manager for radio broadcasting in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland at the "Astra" union of the International Moscow Radio.

From 1992 to 2000, Kostin served as the General Director and co-founder of "Radio 101" (101.2 FM), a popular radio station in Russia. He played a key role in establishing the station as a prominent voice in the industry.

Kostin's next venture was the internet radio portal "101.ru," where he served as the Chief Editor and shareholder from 2000 to 2002.

In 2002, he became the General Producer of "Autoradio" and "Energy" radio stations in Russia (104.2 FM) until 2004. During this time, Kostin showcased his skills in managing and producing successful radio programs.

Leadership Roles

Since 2004, Kostin has been involved with the "Broadcasting Corporation Prof-Media," initially serving as the Vice President for Public Relations and International Relations. He continued to hold this position until December 2009 when he was appointed as the President of the organization.

In 2016, Kostin took on the role of General Director of "Gazprom-Media Radio," a subsidiary of the well-known Gazprom-Media Holding. He held this position until February 2022 when he became the President of "Gazprom-Media Radio."

Contributions and Recognition

In addition to his leadership roles, Kostin has made significant contributions to the industry as a whole. He has been a Vice President of the Russian Academy of Radio (RAR) since February 2010 and is recognized as an academician.

Kostin is a member of the Union of Journalists of Russia and the Union of Writers of Moscow. He has also served as a jury member for the national award "Radiomaniya" and is a member of the Board of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAT).

Furthermore, Kostin is the President of the "Foundation for the Support of Russian Music" and the "Russian National Music Award 'Victoria.'" His dedication to promoting and supporting Russian music has been acknowledged with the award of the Order of Friendship in 2016.
