Yuriy Kosyuk: Ukrainian Agricultural Entrepreneur and Billionaire

Yuriy Kosyuk is a Ukrainian agricultural entrepreneur and billionaire, ranked among the top five wealthiest individuals in the country by Forbes. He is a close associate of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and served as his advisor between 2014 and 2015. Kosyuk owns and chairs the supervisory board of the Mironivsky Hliboproduct (MHP) group of companies.

Early Life and Education

Born in Krasne, Ukraine, Kosyuk pursued a degree in meat and dairy processing at the Kyiv Institute of Food Technologies. However, his studies were interrupted by military service, and he completed his qualification in 1992. While a student, Kosyuk earned his first income as a broker in 1989 and continued working on the Kyiv commodity exchange after graduation.

Business Ventures

Trading (1992-1995)

Kosyuk established LCW, later renamed Roda, in 1992, specializing in importing Polish furniture and manufacturing kitchens. In 1995, he founded the Business Center for the Food Industry, where he served as president until 1999.

Mironivsky Hliboproduct (MHP) (1998-present)

In 1998, Kosyuk founded MHP, a company focused on producing chilled chicken meat. In 2001, MHP introduced the "Nashe Ryaba" brand, which quickly gained significant market recognition. From 2003 onward, MHP opened branded Nashe Ryaba retail stores throughout Ukraine.

Strategic Partnerships and International Expansion (2002-2008)

Kosyuk initiated a partnership with the International Finance Corporation in 2002 to modernize MHP's management and legal structures. In 2006, MHP issued $250 million worth of Eurobonds. In 2008, the company became publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange, raising almost $323 million.

Expansion and Diversification

MHP has grown into a vertically integrated group of companies spanning crop cultivation, livestock breeding, meat processing, and other agricultural activities. The company owns brands such as Nashe Ryaba, Foie Gras, Certified Angus, Druzhba Narodiv, Bachinsky, Legko!, and Qualiko. Kosyuk is the president of the Ukrainian Poultry Breeders Association.

Political Involvement

Kosyuk served as First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine from July to December 2014. Subsequently, he became an advisor to President Poroshenko.

In 2015 and 2017, Kosyuk's net worth was estimated at $1.1 billion. In 2018, he was included in a list of 322 Ukrainian citizens sanctioned by Russia.
