Russian Cosmonaut Oleg Kotov

Birth and Education

Born on December 22, 1961, in Svetlovodsk, Ukraine, Oleg Kotov graduated from secondary school in 1977. He then went on to earn degrees from the Kharkiv Higher Military Aviation School in 1983 and the N.E. Zhukovsky Air Force Engineering Academy in 1993.

Military Service

Prior to becoming a cosmonaut, Kotov served in the Soviet Air Force.
Cosmonaut Training

Kotov joined the cosmonaut corps of the Yury Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center (GCTC) in 1987. He completed his basic space training in 1989. In 1993, he trained as the commander of the backup crew for the 15th main expedition to the Russian space station Mir.
