Biography of Yuriy Voynov
Yuriy Voynov was a legendary midfielder for Kyiv's "Dynamo" football club and the only player from this sports club to win the title of European champion.
Early Career
Voynov began his career at the Mytishchi "Zenit" football club and then moved to Leningrad's "Zenit". From there, he joined the USSR national team. In the autumn of 1955, Voynov transferred from "Zenit" to Kyiv's "Dynamo".
International Recognition
Following the 1958 World Cup, Voynov was included in the lineup of the symbolic world team, a feat that the great Pelé was unable to achieve. The first European Cup won by the USSR national team in 1960 was the pinnacle of Yuriy Voynov's football career.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Voynov became a coach and led various football clubs, including Kyiv's "Dynamo", Odesa's "Chornomorets", Mykolaiv's "Sudostroitel", Donetsk's "Shakhtar", Kharkiv's "Metalist", Kyiv's "SKA", Shepetivka's "Temp", and others.
Legacy
Yuriy Voynov was a deserved sports master and a deserved coach of the Ukrainian SSR. He passed away on April 22, 2003, and was buried at the Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv, Ukraine.
