Early Life and InfluencesBorn in New York City on October 24, 1980, Zac Posen is the son of a painter and a corporate lawyer. His interest in fashion emerged early on, with the young Posen using his grandparents' yarmulkes as fabric for doll ball gowns.
Education and Mentorship
Posen attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, where he interned with fashion designer Nicole Miller. In 1999, he graduated and spent three years as a protégé of curator Richard Martin at The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. At age 18, Posen received his degree in womenswear from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London.
Fashion Debut and Recognition
Posen launched his career with his acclaimed Gen Art's Fresh Faces runway show in 2002. This debut earned him critical recognition and several awards. Shortly after, he dressed celebrities such as Natalie Portman and received the prestigious Swarovski's Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear in 2004.
Star-Studded Clientele
Throughout the early 2000s, Posen's designs became highly sought after by Hollywood stars and socialites. He has dressed Liv Tyler, Gwyneth Paltrow, Claire Danes, Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, Halle Berry, and Kyra Sedgwick.
Collaborations and Expanding Reach
Posen has collaborated with Nokia, designing an exclusive line of wireless products. He also partnered with Vakko, a Turkish company, for accessories. Additionally, he planned a denim collaboration with 7 For All Mankind.
Personal Life and Business Operations
Posen currently employs a team of over 30 and resides in Greenwich Village with his partner, Brian Callahan. His mother, Susan, manages the business side of his company.
Recent Projects and Future Plans
In April 2008, Posen debuted a capsule collection with Target at 75 stores in Australia, preceded by a runway show at the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival. His legacy continues to evolve as he pushes the boundaries of fashion with innovative designs and collaborations.
