Biography of Zach Parise
Zachary Andrew "Zach" Parise was born on July 28, 1984, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. He is an American professional ice hockey player. His father, Jean-Paul "J.P." Parise, was a former player for the Minnesota North Stars and participated in the All-Star Game in 1970 and 1973. Zach's older brother, Jordan, is a goaltender who played for the Wheeling Nailers in one of the lower North American leagues, but never made it to the NHL.
Early Career
Parise spent four seasons playing for Shattuck-St Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota, where he scored a total of 146 goals and made 194 assists in the last two years. In 2002, he began playing for the University of North Dakota team. In 2004, during his sophomore year, Zach was selected for the American All-Star university team.
NHL Career
Parise was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the first round, 17th overall, in the 2003 NHL Draft. Due to the NHL lockout in the 2004-2005 season, Zach made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2005-2006 season. He played in all games except one, scoring 14 goals and making 18 assists. The following season, Parise set a record by scoring a goal 26 seconds into the game and doubled his overall points (62) compared to the previous season.
Achievements
In the 2007-2008 season, Parise accumulated a total of 65 points. On April 28, 2008, he was named the alternate captain for the American team at the 72nd annual IIHF World Championship. On October 3, 2009, Zach received the same appointment for the New Jersey Devils. He made his first All-Star Game appearance in 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, scoring one goal. In the 2008-2009 season, Parise, Pavel Datsyuk, and Martin St. Louis were nominated for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to players who demonstrate the best example of sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct, and high playing ability. Zach is also known by the nicknames "Zach Attack" and "ZP".
Olympics
Parise represented the United States as a member of the American Olympic hockey team in 2010.
