Biography of Zakir Mukhamedzhanov

Zakir Mukhamedzhanov was a Soviet and Uzbek actor of theater and cinema. He was born on January 1, 1921 (according to other sources - August 14) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His mother, a famous singer from Bukhara, often told him stories about famous actors and their challenging lives and difficulties that await those who choose the path of creative exploration.

Early Career

In 1938, Mukhamedzhanov joined the Uzbek Academic Drama Theater named after Hamza as an actor. Initially, he was invited to the theater as an extra, but after a short examination, he was accepted as a member. One of the theater's members, Mannon Uygur, advised Mukhamedzhanov to continue his education, but the outbreak of war prevented him from doing so. Instead, he had to work in a factory, where he learned the trade of a locksmith and diligently achieved high production rates.

Theater and Film Career

After the war, in 1945, the first theater institute in Central Asia, the A.N. Ostrovsky Tashkent Theater and Art Institute, was established, and Mukhamedzhanov became one of its first students. He studied during the day and worked in the theater in the evenings. In 1949, he graduated from the institute and began working full-time in the theater.

From 1956 onwards, Mukhamedzhanov actively started appearing in movies, starring in more than 40 films. He was a member of the Union of Cinematographers of the Uzbek SSR. In his later years, he was an actor at the Uzbek Academic Drama Theater named after Hamza.

Awards and Recognitions

Throughout his career, Mukhamedzhanov received numerous awards and honors, including the titles of Merited Artist of the Uzbek SSR (1956) and People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR (1964). He won the main prize for his performance in the film "General Rahimov" at the All-Union Film Festival (1968). He was also awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR (1977) and the State Prize of the USSR (1977) for his role as V.I. Lenin in the play "Dawn of the Revolution" by K. Yashen. In 1986, he received the State Prize of the Uzbek SSR named after Hamza for his theatrical work.

Later Years and Legacy

Zakir Mukhamedzhanov passed away on August 23, 2012, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He was posthumously awarded the Order of "Dustlik" (Uzbekistan) in 1996 and the Order of "For Outstanding Merits" (Uzbekistan) in 1998. He was also honored with the title of Hero of Uzbekistan.
