Biography of Zaven Gevorgyan
Zaven Gareginovich Gevorgyan was born on May 17, 1942, in Yerevan. He is an Armenian economic and political figure, known for his contributions in both fields.
Early Life and Education
Gevorgyan attended the Yerevan Agricultural Institute from 1959 to 1964, where he studied agricultural sciences. After completing his undergraduate studies, he worked as a foreman at the Yerevan Heating Plant from 1964 to 1965.
Career in Agriculture
In 1965, Gevorgyan became an agronomist at the Masis Collective Farm, where he gained practical experience in agricultural management. From 1966 to 1974, he pursued a postgraduate degree at the Moscow Research Institute of Plant Protection, eventually becoming a scientific researcher and later the deputy director of the institute from 1974 to 1977.
Political Career
Gevorgyan's political career began in 1977 when he became the head of the crop production sector at the Central Committee of the Communist Party. He held this position until 1978 when he was promoted to the position of responsible organizer of the same sector until 1983. From 1983 to 1987, he served as the first secretary of the Aragatsotn Regional Committee of the Communist Party, and from 1987 to 1990, he held the same position in the Artashat Regional Committee.
Later Career
After his political career, Gevorgyan took on various managerial roles in the private sector. From 1993 to 1994, he served as the representative director of the "Russian Corona" company in Moscow. He then became the director of the Moscow-based company "Vengen Oversis" from 1995 to 1996. Gevorgyan later became the chairman of the "Troitskoye" production association from 1997 to 2000.
Minister of Agriculture
In 2000, Gevorgyan was appointed as the Minister of Agriculture of Armenia. During his tenure, he focused on implementing policies to improve agricultural productivity and support rural development.
