Early Life and Education
Born in a family of scholars, our subject's academic journey began at Tbilisi State University, where he delved into the history and philology of the early Middle Ages in the Caucasus region.
Academic Achievements
Upon graduation, he joined the esteemed faculty of Tbilisi State University and ascended to the position of Professor. As the head of the Department of Armenian Studies, he firmly established his presence within the academic community. His contributions to the field earned him the distinction of Corresponding Member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences and Academic Secretary of the Department of Language and Literature.
Leadership and Research
In 1989, our subject assumed the directorship of the Institute of Manuscripts of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, a pivotal role he held for nearly two decades. His erudition and dedication to scholarship extended beyond secular institutions, as he also served as a Professor at the Tbilisi Theological Academy.
Groundbreaking Discoveries
His research endeavors have yielded extraordinary results, particularly in the realm of Aghvan writing. In 1994, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the subject. His meticulous work in deciphering and interpreting these rare manuscripts has significantly advanced our understanding of the Caucasus-Albanian language.
Personal Life
Our subject's family background played a pivotal role in his intellectual pursuits. His father, Nikolai, was a renowned plant protection scientist with a doctorate from Tbilisi State University. His mother, Eвгения, was a talented pianist. His brothers, Tenzig and Guram, also achieved notable accomplishments in their respective fields – geology and agricultural science.
