Zénaïde Bonaparte
Early Life and Royal LineageBorn on July 8, 1801, Zénaïde Bonaparte was the elder daughter of Joseph Bonaparte, King of Naples and Spain, and Julie Clary, a French aristocrat. Her younger sister was Charlotte Bonaparte.
Titles and Family Connections
In 1804, Zénaïde received the title of Her Serene Highness, a Princess of France. Following her father's reign in Spain, she held the title of Infanta of Spain from 1808 to 1813.
Marriage and Children
In 1822, Zénaïde married her cousin, Charles Lucien Bonaparte (1803-1857), the son of Lucien Bonaparte. The marriage was arranged by her father as a strategic alliance in case of the Bonaparte's return to power.
Zénaïde and Charles had twelve children:
