At the age of seventeen, she gained international recognition when she broke the world record in the 5000-meter race, with a sensational time of 15:01.83. However, the record was not officially recognized due to the competition taking place in South Africa, where records were not acknowledged at the time.

Moving to England
When Zola arrived in England, the public unanimously advocated for her to be granted British citizenship, as this would allow her to represent Britain at the 1984 Olympics. Despite political and racial controversies, Zola Budd obtained British citizenship in a relatively short period of time.

Olympic Disappointment
The year 1984 proved to be eventful for Zola as she trained diligently for the Summer Olympic Games, hoping to become the best. However, the Olympics did not go as planned. During a race, Zola had a collision with another athlete, resulting in a highly controversial situation. Despite her efforts, Zola was unable to win a medal.
International Success
