Biography of Zoltan Kodaly
Zoltan Kodaly was a Hungarian composer born on December 16, 1882, in Kecskemét. He collaborated with Béla Bartok in his youth and collected Hungarian folk music, which greatly influenced his compositional career.
International Recognition
Kodaly gained international recognition for his Hungarian Psalm (1923), a composition based on the words of the Fourth Psalm, which was created to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Buda and Pest.
Famous Orchestral Composition
Kodaly's most popular orchestral composition is the suite from the opera Háry János (Hry Janos, 1926).
Multifaceted Career
In addition to his work as a composer and conductor, Kodaly was also a successful music critic and gave public lectures. His collected folklore materials, titled Hungarian Folk Music (A Magyar Népzene Tára), were published in four volumes between 1951 and 1956.
Legacy
Zoltan Kodaly passed away on March 6, 1967, in Budapest, leaving behind a significant impact on Hungarian music and a rich collection of compositions and ethnomusicological research.
