Early Life and CareerZoran Planinic was born on September 12, 1982, in Split, Croatia. His basketball career began with KK Cibona, a renowned Croatian club based in Zagreb. From 2000 to 2002, Planinic played a key role in Cibona's success, leading them to two Croatian League championships and two Croatian Cup victories.
NBA Draft and European Journey
In 2003, Planinic was selected with the 22nd overall pick by the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Draft. He spent three seasons in the NBA before returning to Europe in 2006 with Tau Ceramica in Spain. With Tau, he won two Spanish SuperCups and the 2007-2008 Spanish League championship.
Success with CSKA Moscow
In 2008, Planinic signed a two-year contract with the Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow. During his tenure, he achieved significant success, including: the 2008 Promo-Cup of the United VTB League, two Russian League championships (2008-2009, 2009-2010), the 2009-2010 United VTB League championship, and the 2010 Russian Cup victory.
Career Continuation with Khimki
In June 2010, Planinic joined the Russian club Khimki Moscow Region on a two-year contract. On October 27, 2010, he scored his 1000th point in the EuroLeague.
National Team Career
Planinic represented Croatia at various levels, including the U-22 team that won a silver medal at the World Championship. He was a regular member of the Croatian national team, competing in the 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009 European Championships, the 2010 World Championship, and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
