Biography of Zurab Zhvania

Zurab Zhvania was a Georgian politician and public figure who served as the Prime Minister of Georgia from 2003 to 2005.

Early Life and Education

Zurab Zhvania was born in 1963. He completed his education at the biological faculty of the capital's university.

Leadership of the "Green Movement of Georgia"

From 1988 to 1993, Zhvania led the "Green Movement of Georgia," which included many future opposition leaders.

Speaker of the National Parliament

From 1995 to 2002, Zhvania served as the Speaker of the National Parliament.

Supporter turned Opponent

In the late 1990s, Zhvania was considered one of the best politicians in Georgia, even being seen as a potential successor to President Shevardnadze. However, in the last two years, he became one of the leaders of the opposition against Shevardnadze.

Appointment as Prime Minister

Zhvania was appointed as the new Prime Minister of Georgia on February 18th. His nomination was presented by President Mikhail Saakashvili and was approved by 165 parliament members, with only 5 voting against.
