Biography of Aaron Allston
Aaron Allston is an American game designer and writer. He is known for his work on various fantasy novels, including those set in the 'Star Wars' universe. As a game designer, he contributed to the development of several role-playing games, some of which formed the basis for the 'Mystara' setting of the 'Dungeons & Dragons' game by 'TSR'. He also worked as a writer, focusing on the 'Star Wars: X-Wing' series, including novels such as 'Wraith Squadron', 'Iron Fist', 'Solo Command', and 'Starfighters of Adumar'. Allston also wrote two annotations for the 'New Jedi Order' series: 'Enemy Lines I: Rebel Dream' and 'Enemy Lines II: Rebel Stand'. He was the author of three out of nine novels in the 'Legacy of the Force' series: 'Betrayal', 'Exile', and 'Fury'. Furthermore, he wrote three out of nine books in the 'Fate of the Jedi' series: 'Outcast', 'Backlash', and 'Conviction'.
Early Life and Education
Aaron Allston was born in Corsicana, Texas, United States in 1960. During his youth, he traveled extensively throughout Texas. He completed his high school education in Denton and later moved to Austin in 1979 to attend the University of Texas.
Career
In 1983, Allston transitioned to freelance game development after working as an editor for the gaming magazine 'Space Gamer'. He edited this publication from issue 52 to 65. Additionally, he served as the editor of the first issue of 'Fantasy Gamer' and co-editor of the second issue. The collaboration on the 'Star Wars: X-Wing' series began in 1977 when writer Michael Stackpole was unable to meet the workload. Stackpole and Allston had previously worked together in the gaming industry. In 2006, Allston started working on the 'Legacy of the Force' series, beginning with the hardcover novel 'Betrayal'. He also authored books such as 'Terminator 3: Terminator Dreams', 'Terminator Hunt', and co-authored the 'Dungeons & Dragons Rules Cyclopedia' encyclopedia.
Filmmaking and Health
In 2005, Allston made his directorial debut with the independent film 'Deadbacks', which he also produced and wrote the screenplay for. In early April 2009, while on a book tour promoting the novel 'Outcast', the first book in the 'Fate of the Jedi' series, Allston suffered a heart attack and underwent quadruple bypass surgery. He currently resides in Round Rock, Texas.
