Aaron Eckhart is an American actor and nominee for the Golden Globe Award. He has portrayed both leading and supporting roles in various films and has won several awards for his role in the independent film "In the Company of Men" (1997).

Early Life and Education

Eckhart was born in Cupertino, California, to Mary M. (Lawrence) Eckhart, a poet and children's book author, and James C. "Senior Jim" Eckhart, an information technology expert. He is the youngest of their three sons. He was raised in the Latter-day Saint church and spent his teenage years living with his family in England and Sydney, Australia. After high school, he spent three years in Hawaii, where he learned to surf, and later served in a mission for the Latter-day Saint church in France and Switzerland. Eckhart received his acting education at Brigham Young University, graduating in 1994.

Personal Life

Eckhart was engaged to actress Emily Klein but broke up with her in 1998. For the film "Erin Brockovich" (2000), he specifically acquired a motorcycle to learn how to ride it. In 2006, rumors surfaced about a romantic relationship between Eckhart and country music group SHeDAISY lead singer Kristyn Osborn, after he appeared in their music video for the song "I'm Taking The Wheel," where they kissed throughout the video. Osborn is also a member of the Latter-day Saint church.

Career

While still a student, Eckhart appeared in the Mormon-themed film "Godly Sorrow." He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role in the feature film "Thank You for Smoking." He portrayed district attorney Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, in the sequel to "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," which was released in 2008.
