Childhood and Early Life
Arati Manjumdar, known professionally as Aarti Mann, was born on March 3, 1978, in Connecticut. Her parents, of Bengali Brahmin caste, immigrated to the United States from Calcutta. Her father was a general practitioner and her mother an obstetrician-gynecologist at a Pittsburgh hospital. Mann's father passed away while she was a young schoolgirl. She grew up in a close-knit family with her younger brother, Nishad, and older sister, Kruti.
Education and Career Shift
After graduating from high school, Mann initially pursued a degree in filmmaking at New York University. However, she discovered her passion for acting and transitioned to the Tisch School of the Arts. Mann eventually relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career.
Early Film and Television Work
Mann's first feature film role was in her sister Kruti Madjumdar's drama "Memsaab" (2006). She gained recognition for her recurring role as Priya Koothrappali, Raj's beautiful and intelligent sister, in the popular sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" (2010-2013).
Television Success
Mann continued to appear in supporting roles in several acclaimed television series, including "Suits," "Scandal," and "Grey's Anatomy." Her notable performance in the comedy "Sharon 1.2.3." (2013-2014) landed her a leading role.
Marriage and Family
Mann is happily married to a fellow Indian-American, Purvesh Mankad. The couple has a daughter named Nikita, who is a President's Scholar at South Pasadena High School and is actively involved in extracurricular activities.
Current Projects
Mann continues to actively pursue her acting career. In 2022, she starred in the Netflix series "The Recruit" as Violet, a central character in the spy thriller. She has also worked on the short film drama "Samskara" and the series "The Good Doctor" and "The Donor Party."
