Saint Anoub: A Child Martyr of Egypt

Birth and Early Life

Anoub was born into a devout Coptic Christian family in the town of Nehissa, situated in the Nile Delta region of Egypt. Little is known about his early childhood, but his family instilled in him a strong faith and love for God.

Martyrdom at a Tender Age

At the tender age of 12, Anoub faced a tragic end. A Roman governor, known for his persecution of Christians, apprehended Anoub and subjected him to cruel tortures. According to Coptic tradition, the governor was particularly incensed by Anoub's unwavering faith and refusal to renounce his Christianity.

Enduring the Flames

Despite the excruciating pain inflicted upon him, Anoub remained steadfast in his belief and refused to bow to the governor's demands. As a result, he was condemned to be burned alive. With great courage and unwavering faith, Anoub stepped into the flames, surrendering his young life for his unwavering love of Christ.

Legacy and Veneration

Saint Anoub's unwavering faith and sacrifice made a profound impact on the Coptic Christian community. He became a symbol of the strength and resilience of the faith amidst adversity. The Coptic Orthodox Church reveres his memory on July 31st (21 Abib in the Coptic calendar), commemorating both the day of his martyrdom and his birth into eternal glory.

Patron Saint and Symbol of Faith

Today, Saint Anoub is venerated as a patron saint of children and those facing persecution. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of faith and the enduring spirit of those who remain true to their convictions, even in the face of great adversity.
