Early Life and Education
Born in the village of Zhambyl in 1934, Ylyas Omarov embarked on his musical journey at the Zhambyl Cultural and Educational College. He later honed his skills at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory.
Musical Career
Omarov's exceptional talents as a composer, kюйshi (traditional Kazakh musician), and dombra (Kazakh lute) player earned him widespread recognition. In 1964-1965, he worked in the cultural department of Shu district.
From 1965 to 1996, Omarov played a pivotal role in establishing and leading the ensemble "Shu Yerkesi." Throughout his career, he composed over 70 küy and songs, including the renowned "Yelkesyldym."
Notable Compositions
Omarov's compositions, such as "Arman Kyisi," "Abai Armany," "Zhambyl Tölğauy," and "Täran Eli," have become integral to the repertoire of the Kazakh Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments. His famous küy "Yelkesyldym" holds a special place in the Golden Fund of Kazakh Music.
Awards and Recognition
Omarov's contributions to Kazakh music were honored with numerous awards, including the Order of Kurmet, Order of Parasat, and Order of Dostyk. In 1994, he was recognized as a Merited Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Legacy
Ylyas Omarov passed away on April 12, 2024, at the age of 89. His exceptional artistry and dedication to preserving Kazakh musical heritage will continue to inspire generations to come.
