Ian Dallas, a talented Scottish playwright and actor, embarked on a life-changing journey in 1967 when he converted to Islam in the historic al-Qarawiyyin Mosque in Fez, Morocco. Sheikh al-Habibrecognized Dallas's devout nature and bestowed upon him the title "as-Sufi." Inspired by his mentor's teachings, Ian Dallas transformed into Abdel-Qader as-Sufi, dedicating his life to Islamic scholarship and the revival of the faith.

Establishing a Muslim Community in London

Abdel-Qader as-Sufibelieved that a strong Muslim community was essential for the flourishing of Islam. In the 1970s, he rallied a group of fellow converts and together they established a vibrant Muslim enclave in central London. Through their collective efforts, they transformed empty buildings into a thriving community center, providing essential services to local residents.

Encounter with King Khalid and the Wahhabis

As-Sufisought support from the Saudi Arabian government for his ambitious project to create a Muslim village in England. While King Khalid initially welcomed the proposal, conservative Wahhabi elements within the court obstructed its realization.

The Guidance of Sheikh Abdullah Al Mahmoud

Despite the setbacks, Abdel-Qader as-Sufifound solace and encouragement in the friendship of Sheikh Abdullah Al Mahmoud, a prominent Wahhabi scholar. Al Mahmoud emphasized the importance of adherence to the true Salafi creed, as exemplified by the teachings of Imam Malik.

The True Salafi Legacy

As-Sufiimmersed himself in the study of classical Islamic jurisprudence, guided by the teachings of Sheikh Abdullah Al Mahmoud. Under his leadership, his disciples produced exceptional translations of previously inaccessible texts, revitalizing the authentic Salafi legacy in Europe.
